There are many bad things about Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and other DNA altering techniques that have been developed and why using it for aesthetic reasons is wrong, but this type of research can be used in a beneficial way as well. There have been studies done on how different DNA altering techniques can be used to prevent genetic diseases and deformities. In China in spring of 2015 a study was done by Chinese scientists who reported having used CRISPR/Cas9 technology on ‘non-viable’ embryos in an attempt to modify the gene responsible for the potentially fatal blood disorder, ß-thalassaemia. This is only one example of many. Although there is a lot more testing to do before they can use these techniques on viable human embryos, there is a good, logical reason behind it unlike using these techniques for aesthetic reasons.
